The First Purge Trailer Is Action-Packed And Terrifying
The Purge film series kicked off in 2013, and while the last movie, 2016's The Purge: Election Year, put a cap on this annual event (for now), the next movie, The First Purge, will wind the clock back and show the first time that citizens of the United States were able to commit any crime they wanted for one night without any legal consequences. With only three months left to go until the prequel drops, The First Purge has finally dropped its first trailer, and like its predecessors, this movie doesn't look like it will be lacking in frights.
The First Purge gives us a look at how the annual event of murder and mayhem got started. We see Marisa Tomei playing the role of the woman behind the concept. The trailer follows a group of civilians as they try to survive the first event. Unlike the other films that we've seen, the characters here have really no idea what to expect, and things seem, at first, like they might be ok, people are throwing parties because apparently, they realized that nobody can make a noise complaint. Of course, eventually, everything goes bad.
From the outset, the trailer suggests the idea that the Purge is actually a political tool, rather than one designed to allow people to simply release aggression. What's most interesting is that the character being played by Marisa Tomei seems to legitimately believe that, as she seems quite upset when she learns that soldiers are being sent in to cause violence in order to be sure that the Purge "works." While she may have truly believed in the Purge for its psychological benefits, others have realized it can be used to other ends.
Originally, The Purge was a fairly simple horror movie, which followed a single family as they attempted to survive the night. From there, however, the franchise became a bit more action oriented and a bit more "big picture" as it began to examine the concept through the lens of society as a whole. The First Purge looks to certainly have the action that the latter films are known for, but it also has the tension and violence of a horror movie.
The Purge franchise has grown into a solid brand over the years. While the films have never set box office records, their relative inexpensiveness makes them nearly guaranteed to be profitable at the box office. This one certainly looks like it's likely to bring fans back to the theater. In addition to the first trailer, The First Purge also released a brand new poster.

Chris Pratt Has Found A New Movie Following Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3's Delay
While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was expected to be one of Marvel's 2020 movies, the loss of James Gunn as director has seen production delayed. and now it might not start filming until 2021. While that delay is a bummer for MCU fans, it does free up Peter Quill actor Chris Pratt for other projects in the meantime. It looks like Chris Pratt has found one too in a new movie from Taylor Sheridan.
Chris Pratt is in talks to star in the film that is going by the working title Fast. According to Variety, the film follows a former Special Forces commando who is recruited by the DEA to lead a black ops team as they aim to take out drug dealers. The only catch is these drug dealers are protected by the CIA.
The new movie comes from writer-director Taylor Sheridan, who wrote and directed last year's Wind River. Taylor Sheridan has proved his aptitude at telling these types of stories in the past, with Sicario and Hell or High Water-- both of which he wrote the screenplays for.
The director has been looking for an actor to take on the role ,and he needed a big star to justify the film's $70 million to $80 million budget to Warner Bros. In Chris Pratt he has found just the man to get Fast the greenlight at the studio.
Taylor Sheridan might still be looking for a star if not for a series of extenuating circumstances and development snags on Chris Pratt's other projects. The in demand actor was set to reprise his Star-Lord role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but the director issues that have delayed that film freed him up.
Chris Pratt was also set to star in Cowboy Ninja Viking, another comic book adaptation with franchise potential at Universal. That was supposed to start shooting in September, but was pulled from the schedule and is on indefinite hold. It is still in active development though with Chris Pratt still expected to star.
Those film's issues may be disappointing for fans hoping to see those movies, but it looks like they are a gain for Taylor Sheridan's new movie. It sounds like Chris Pratt was instantly interested in this film upon meeting with the director too.
This description indicates that Fast is a much more serious movie and role than Chris Pratt is known for. He did play a member of SEAL Team Six in Zero Dark Thirty, but the actor is best known for his more comedic and action fare in the MCU movies and the Jurassic World franchise.
If Taylor Sheridan's new film is as gritty and intense as Sicario or Hell or High Water, it will definitely give us a Chris Pratt we aren't used to seeing. The premise is quite interesting too as one government law enforcement agency acts in its own interests in direct opposition to a government intelligence agency's much different aims.

Alex Winter Says Bill And Ted Was Therapeutic For Him After He Was Sexually Abused As A Child Star
Sometimes acting is more than just a job. If someone finds the right role to play, not only can it be a valuable and fun experience, it may even end up being therapeutic for that person. Such was the case for Alex Winter, who is best know for playing Bill Preston in the Bill & Ted movies. Winter recently revealed that as he was growing up and performing as a child star in the 1970s, he was sexually abused, but working on 1989's Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and the 1991 sequel Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey allowed him to cope with the trauma he'd experienced when he was younger. In his words:
The films were really, really seminal for me, personally, in that way. They were really therapeutic for me in a way, and they gave me kind of a grounding that I moved off from with them. The world of Bill & Ted is a very sweet and fun place to run around in.
Alex Winter admitted that the reason that he hasn't talked publicly about his sexual abuse until now is because he felt that he didn't have any "place of safety to unlock an extremely sensitive and potentially dangerous secret." As he explained during his interview with BBC Radio 5, his experiences left him with post-traumatic stress disorder, and while he's done "heavy lifting" to work through it, the only reason he's felt comfortable to share this personal information now is because of the wave of sexual harassment/abuse allegations that have been steadily coming out since last year. Going back to Bill & Ted, Winter was in a "dark place" around that time, but playing the dim-witted Bill alongside Keanu Reeves' equally slacker-ish Ted Logan was fun, and he still looks back fondly at starring in those movies. Winter continued:
The movies are what they are, they're silly and all that, I don't hold them in overly high estimation as works of art or anything, but we had a lot of fun making them. But for me personally, in terms of the experience... it was really, really helpful for me mentally. And it was a great environment.
It's been nearly three decades since the last Bill & Ted movie was released, but Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, have been trying for years to re-team for Bill & Ted 3. The threequel has been in development since 2010, and co-writer Ed Solomon recently revealed that one of the obstacles the project is facing includes raising money, because any parties who have been interested in it would rather do a straight reboot instead of a direct sequel. Should Bill & Ted 3, a.k.a. Bill & Ted: Face the Music, eventually get off the ground, it will follow the eponymous duo as middle-aged men who now have their own families, and they're tasked with writing a song that will save the universe. The movie would also see Bill and Ted going back in time to interact with their teenage selfs and their mentor Rufus, who was played by the late George Carlin.
