How Much Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Made Overseas On Opening Night
If you live in the United States, it might seem a little early for news about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's box office to be hitting the interwebs. However, the movie has actually already roared to life in several territories, and the first official box office numbers are in. Those overseas numbers aren't too shabby, either, and even were record-breaking in some locations. So far, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has made over $20 million worldwide so far.
Currently, the movie has opened in 7 markets, and that will have increased to 48 total markets by Sunday. Overnight in the 7 markets, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom made $20.2 million. In Korea, it actually became the biggest opening day of all time for the country, beating out Avengers: Infinity War and The Mummy; The movie beat the former in admissions and the latter in box office totals. Elsewhere, the sequel also did well. In Indonesia, for example, the movie brought in $1 million dollars on opening night, and THR notes that's 120% better than how Jurassic World did opening night. The movie also opened to solid numbers in France, Germany, the Philippines, Belgium and Switzerland.
Early estimates for the film's international box office are already available. Through opening weekend, the second Jurassic World film is expected to make around $135 million internationally this weekend. Estimates aren't an exact science, but if those numbers hold true over time, the movie might end up making a little less overall than the original Jurassic World. Still, it could be some time before we know exactly how the movie is doing. The flick opens in China on June 15 and in North America on June 22.
Speaking of North America, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is also expected to make a lot of money opening weekend. Estimates here indicate that the movie could open to between $140 million and $150 million here, which would put it behind Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther's opening weekends earlier this year, but would still be a solid debut. Black Panther opened to $202 million and Infinity War to over $257 million. In addition, so you have an understanding of how this franchise has done, Jurassic World's opening weekend brought in over $204 million at the domestic box office.
Unfortunately, as noted prior, we still have a few weeks to wait in anticipation before J.A. Bayona's new movie hits theaters in North America.
