Ant-Man And The Wasp Originally Had A Hilarious Captain America Cameo

When Iron Man first hit theaters in 2007, the concept of serialized storytelling and a shared universe seemed like a pipe dream. But the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now a decade old, so crossovers and references are consistently being made with each new blockbuster. The latest MCU movie to hit the silver screen is Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and The Wasp, which ran alongside the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The movie's post-credits scene had major implications for the greater shared universe, although it turns out that Chris Evans' Captain America was part of the original plan for the movie. Peyton Reed recently revealed his idea to bring in Steve Rogers, in order to hilariously reference the events of Civil War. As he tells it,

Early on, we had a version where we were going to do a quick version of the tarmac fight from Civil War, with some ridiculous thing where, you know, Captain America has Ant-Man as a baseball and throws him. Because the whole thing is Luis' version of events, right?

Does anybody else have some serious FOMO right now? While it wouldn't have made a major impact on the events of Ant-Man 2, this planned cameo was a great way to bring in other Marvel hero, while still keeping with the comedy-heavy tone of the Ant-Man franchise.

Peyton Reed's comments to Radio Times will no doubt entice the many Marvel fans who have been shelling out money for each new blockbuster over the past decade. While the MCU produces consistently great content, crossovers and references to past movies help validate the fandom. There has been a ton of money thrown at Marvel studios by the fans over the past decade, and moments like the planned Captain America cameo in Ant-Man and The Wasp prove that its still worth the time and money to get to the theater.

Ultimately due to where Ant-Man and The Wasp sat on the overall Marvel timeline, it was nearly impossible to feature tons of references or crossovers to the rest of the universe. But that's also where the franchise shines, as it has a tone unique to anything else that the studio brings. And while fans had to wait until Ant-Man 2's post-credits scene to get that sense of serialized storytelling, it paid off with one of the best bonus scenes of the entire MCU.

Ant-Man mostly told a capsulated story, but did feature a major crossover when Anthony Mackie's Falcon showed up for a brief battle with the title character. Having a bonafide Avenger arrive on scene is exciting stuff, so Peyton Reed has already provided enough crazy moments to the fans with the larger ensemble of the MCU.

Ant-Man And The Wasp is still in theaters now, even if Captain America doesn't make an appearance. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

14 Amazing Moments From The Captain Marvel Trailer And What They Mean

14 Amazing Moments From The Captain Marvel Trailer And What They Mean

In the end credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, while witnessing chaos as people start vanishing into dust around him, Nick Fury, seeming to realize the gravity of the situation, immediately springs into action, racing against his own impending doom to send out a message to Captain Marvel. Now we finally get to meet the hero he called out to when the need was most dire.

The trailer for Captain Marvel dropped this morning and it finally gave us a look at the ultra-powerful hero and showed an MCU movie that looks and feels different than what we've seen before. The first trailer is light on plot details, but it is chock full of amazing moments that are worth taking a second look at as we begin the countdown to the arrival of Brie Larson's hero when Captain Marvel opens next year.

Our Hero In L.A., Lost And ConfusedWe heard that this would not be a traditional origin story, and the trailer makes that clear right away. After crashing to Earth and landing in a Blockbuster, we see Brie Larson's Captain Marvel walking, in her full Starforce uniform no less, through a metro station. But the strange looks from passers by are nothing compared to Carol Danvers' clear confusion as she looks around, trying to gauge her surroundings and where she has arrived. She is lost and confused, a stranger in a strange land. But she is a human, so why is Earth so foreign to her?

What S.H.I.E.L.D. Looked Like In The 1990sThanks to Captain America: The First Avenger and Agent Carter, we know that S.H.I.E.L.D. has existed since World War II, but the Captain Marvel trailer gives us our first look at the agency in the 1990s. S.H.I.E.L.D. certainly doesn't seem to have helicarrier-level tech at this point, and that makes the contrast of power with the alien threat all the greater in this time period. S.H.I.E.L.D. appears to be operating out of an Area 51-esque hidden basement where we see Nick Fury, along with another man, witnessing the dissection of what appears to be a Skrull.

Alien Ships In Our OrbitOne fascinating aspect of this trailer is that it sets up Captain Marvel to be a first contact story as humanity (or at least S.H.I.E.L.D.) gets a first glimpse at the level of threats that are out there. The trailer shows an alien ship de-cloaking in our orbit. We don't know whether this ship is Kree or Skrull but it appears to be greeting a ship that is coming from Earth. No matter whom these two vessels belong to, it is clear that the alien threat will not be in some far off galaxy, but will be on our doorstep.

A Glimpse Of Captain Marvel's PowersNick Fury called this person when Thanos was busy wrecking shop on half the Avengers, so she needs to bring it, and thankfully we get a glimpse and just what kind of power Captain Marvel is packing. This trailer is light on her fighting but we do see her in action (in classic superhero fashion) on top of a train. She is using her photonic blasts that emit a concussive force of photon and stellar light energy from her hands at some unseen foe. This brief glimpse gives us an idea that she has some truly awesome and cool-looking powers.

Young Nick Fury, With Two EyesNick Fury narrates the whole trailer, and we also get to see Samuel L. Jackson's character onscreen meeting Captain Marvel. This Nick Fury is rocking binocular vision and a more youthful look thanks to de-aging technology. Younger Nick Fury is still cool as can be, not fazed or flustered when confronted with Captain Marvel's arrival. Based on his narration, he, in a very Murtaugh fashion, was ready to hang it up prior to meeting Captain Marvel. But this meeting and the events of this movie will send him down a path to becoming one of Earth's most important defenders.

Hala, The Kree HomeworldMuch of the Captain Marvel trailer is set on Earth but we know that a lot of the movie takes place in space. We get a little bit of that in one of the more intriguing shots in the trailer that shows Brie Larson's character on what I imagine is the Kree homeworld, Hala. Carol Danvers is looking out a window at a vast, technologically advanced cityscape with flying vehicles everywhere. It would seem that she calls Hala home, so it will be interesting to see how that allegiance may come into conflict with her true home of Earth.

Captain Marvel's Memory Being ErasedProbably the most interesting point of discussion following this trailer will be Captain Marvel's memory. She seems to have lost her memory of who she is and where she comes from, and this trailer gives us a glimpse how it happens. Inside an alien structure, she is restrained upside down and some kind of energy is permeating her temples, erasing who she used to be and leaving only the soldier behind. We don't yet know why her memory was erased but she doesn't appear to be in pain or resisting in this shot, so I wonder if it was a choice.

Ronan The Accuser Returns To The MCULee Pace's Ronan the Accuser didn't quite live up to expectations to be a menacing and memorable villain in Guardians of the Galaxy but the character gets another chance to make his mark in Captain Marvel. Ronan is a high judge and part of the Kree aristocracy, and in Guardians we saw him as a radicalized zealot, but here he will be a part of Starforce, as he was briefly in the comics. In the trailer, we see him on a ship, hammer in hand, looking out over what looks like the Earth, perhaps intensifying his beliefs in Kree superiority.

The StarforceCarol Danvers may be a future Avenger, but in Captain Marvel she is a member of the elite Kree military arm, Starforce. The Starforce had a brief but important run in the comics during the Operation: Galactic Storm storyline and the Kree-Shi'ar war, where the loyal group was deceived about their true purpose. Here we see Captain Marvel walking along with her Starforce teammates, Algenis Perez Soto's Att-Lass and Gemma Chan's Minn-Erva, as they appear to be heading out on a mission. We also get a glimpse at Jude Law's mysterious Starforce leader, who may or may not be Mar-Vell.

Why Is Captain Marvel Punching This Grandma? The most surprising moment in the trailer comes when Captain Marvel is on a train and she looks down at a cute old grandma who smiles back up at her. Captain Marvel wipes the smile off her face with a mean right to the jaw. So what does Captain Marvel have against old people? Well, I think it is safe to say that granny is no granny at all, but a Skrull in disguise. The shape-shifting ability of the Skrulls creates for a tense, invasion atmosphere where even the most meek may really be wolves in sheep's clothing.

Agent Coulson!Perhaps even more exciting than getting to see a younger, two-eyed Nick Fury is the return of Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson. The heroic agent from The Avengers hasn't been seen in the film side of the MCU since his temporary death in that film, but now he is back and like Nick Fury, he will get a major taste of what is out there. Knowledge that will likely instill his beliefs in the importance of S.H.I.E.L.D. Coulson is a fan favorite so it will be great to see this hero again, perhaps as the Riggs to Fury's Murtaugh.

Nick Fury's Infinity War PagerWhen Nick Fury called for help in the end credits scene to Avengers: Infinity War, he did so using a pager. This seemingly antiquated technology obviously had some modifications done to it and the Captain Marvel trailer shows what appears to be that same pager, pre-modifications. Nick Fury sends out a page saying that he is with the target, but who he is sending it to and who the target is we know not. This also reminds us that, at least in the earthbound stuff, there probably won't be any cellphones, making communication less immediate and more of a challenge.

The Moment She Gains Her Powers? We know that when Captain Marvel starts, Carol Danvers will already have her powers and be off Earth. This trailer shows that the way we will find out the origin of this character will probably be via flashback. One of those flashbacks shows Carol Danvers, in a flight suit, taking a huge blast of energy full force. We also see a shot of her lying on the ground with energy swirling around her fingertips. This could be the moment she gains her powers. Historically, Carol Danvers is exposed to radiation from a Kree device. This radiation transforms her DNA, giving her powers.

The Final Power UpThis is it, the money shot. The end of the trailer gives us a glimpse at the true level of power lurking within Captain Marvel and it is incredible. The otherworldly energy is surging all around her and within her, even making her eyes glow with power. She looks like a Saiyan powering up to unleash everything in an intense battle. Not since Thor have we seen a hero with this sort of display of awesome power and it lets us know that this hero is exactly the kind of cavalry the Avengers need right now. Thanos should start sweating.

Johnny Depp Reportedly Being Dropped From The Pirates Of The Caribbean Reboot

Johnny Depp Reportedly Being Dropped From The Pirates Of The Caribbean Reboot

It looks like the rumored Pirates of the Caribbean reboot, if it happens, will be moving forward without the franchise's biggest star. One of the biggest questions about the potential reboot was whether or not it would include Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow. Now, one source is claiming that Depp is done with the films. Stuart Beattie, who was one of the writers of the original Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, has seemingly confirmed Depp's exit, saying...

I think he's had a great run. Obviously, he's made that character his own and it's become the character he's most famous for now. And kids all over the world love him as that character so I think it's been great for him, it's been great for us, so I'm just very, very happy about it.

Stuart Beattie made the comments to DailyMailTV and reportedly nodded when asked about the possibility of Depp's departure, followed by the comments above.

It's unclear just how "in the know" Stuart Beattie is at the moment. While he's been credited on every subsequent Pirates of the Caribbean movie as having helped to create the characters, he was only directly involved in writing the first movie. It's possible that he is aware that any potential reboot won't be using any characters he created, which would include Captain Jack Sparrow. He could also simply be making an assumption that the word "reboot" means that Jack Sparrow is done. At this point, the word reboot means so many things in Hollywood that this is far from certain.

Of course, that would also mean that the potential reboot, which Disney has reportedly met with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick about writing, would be a complete start from scratch, with no existing characters making the leap to the new movies. It didn't sound like there was much chance of getting Keira Knightley back again anyway.

The news of a potential reboot was somewhat surprising. While the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have been consistent money makers for Disney, regardless of whether or not they were critically received, the current rumor was that Disney was considering another sequel.

The implication, whether accurate or not, is that Disney may be looking to make a Depp-less Pirates movie because the actor has been something of a lightning rod for controversy in recent months. The actor has been involved in multiple personal lawsuits over his finances and his relationship with Amber Heard has been tabloid fodder that has included accusations of abuse. Warner Bros. was criticized for bringing Johnny Depp on board the Fantastic Beasts franchise and there's a good chance that if the family-friendly Disney brought him back for yet another film, they would get a similar backlash.

Stuart Beattie takes a positive view of the franchise moving on without the characters he helped build.

There's that saying, don't frown because it's over, smile because it happened. And the fact that they're rebooting something that you did, means that you did something that is worth rebooting. So I tend to look at it as the glass half full and it's an honor to be rebooted.

It's no shock Disney thinks the franchise is worth rebooting, it's made them $4.5 billion at the box office.

Of course, if the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is in line for a complete reboot, one then has to wonder what direction it could take. The film could still be set in the existing film universe, a Caribbean where Jack Sparrow exists, just simply will not appear. We could also see a prequel that takes place before the events of the existing franchise. There has been lore and backstory set up that could be used, allowing the new films to connect to the existing ones without having to use any of the characters. However, it could just as easily start with something entirely fresh.

The original film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl found a story in the original theme park ride, which has an opening sequence full of skeletons, including one that is still standing at the wheel of a ship and another that appears to be drinking. These images inspired the skeleton pirates which Jack Sparrow faced off against. Other elements of the ride were inserted as easter eggs, such as the famous dog holding the key to a prison cell..

I would certainly hope that Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese would go back to the ride to look for inspiration for their new film. Of course, thanks to the popularity of the film franchise, much of the ride has been taken over by Captain Jack Sparrow and the iconic Hans Zimmer theme music, so that might be more difficult.

Still, as I have previously written, there is one place in the ride with a lot of potential, an element of the attraction that's fairly new, and thus has never been part of the previous films.

One of the most well-known vignettes of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction is the auction sequence, where one pirate is auctioning off the women of a recently plundered town to other pirates. Recently, the decision was made to update that moment, and the shapely redhead animatronic that was getting cat calls from the pirates before is now a pirate herself, aptly named Redd.

This seems like the perfect character to set a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie around. It doesn't require recycling already used ride material for the film and is a character as far away from Captain Jack Sparrow as you can get. Disney has also invested a lot in Redd. In addition to being in the ride itself, she's also a walk around character you can get a photo with at Disneyland.

Of course, all of this may be premature as it's not confirmed that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have agreed to write a Pirates of the Caribbean movie at all. Disney may certainly go looking for other writers if they turn it down, but regardless, we're still waiting on confirmation that this reboot is actually going to happen.

Johnny Depp has been dropped from "Pirates of the Caribbean," according to the film franchise's original scriptwriter Stuart Beattie. Disney Studios plans to reboot the billion-dollar franchise and will be axing Depp, Beattie told DailyMail TV at a recent red carpet event in Hollywood.

Glass Ending Explained: The Twist And What It Means

If you haven't seen M. Night Shyamalan's Glass yet, don't shatter the ending for yourself. This article is packed with SPOILERS, so come back after you've seen the movie!

Leave it up to M. Night Shyamalan to offer up this twist: He's been crafting a trilogy for Unbreakable all this time! After he pulled one of the most iconic movie surprises of all time in 1999's The Sixth Sense, Shyamalan produced his comic book themed drama about the sole survivor of a trainwreck, David Dunn (Bruce Willis) who finds out he has superpowers. In the process, he discovers the villain to his hero, Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson), who has been orchestrating violent accidents to prove his theory that comic books are based on reality.

Audiences found out the story of Unbreakable wasn't over when they reached the end of Shyamalan's comeback hit Split in 2016. The psychological thriller introduced a villain with multiple personalities -- one of which a terrifying "beast" -- who kidnaps three teenaged girls to feed them to it. The conclusion revealed Split to be a villain origin story, as David Dunn appeared to connect the movies together.

With Glass, the three main characters established in Unbreakable and Split have crossed to create a trilogy finale, including a signature Shyamalan twist. Let's recap what happened and discuss the conclusion that was 19 years in the making:

Heroes And VillainsMuch of Glass has David Dunn, Kevin Wendell Crumb and Mr. Glass in a high-security hospital and being treated by Dr. Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) for their belief that they are superheroes and it starts to test their realities. But everything shakes up when Mr. Glass slides past the nurses and cameras to visit Kevin's Horde of personalities and team up with him/them to break out.

The villainous pair manages to make it out with the help of Kevin's most destructive personality, the Beast. Then, Mr. Glass calls upon David to use his super strength to break out as well, enticing him with their plan to wreak havoc on the grand opening of a new skyscraper on Philadelphia's skyline if he doesn't, showing the world that comic book heroes are real. Of course, our hero cannot resist, so he breaks out too and goes head-to-head with the Beast.

With the Beast unleashed, he looks unstoppable until David's son Joseph, Mr. Glass' mom and Casey (from Split) all show up on the scene. Game changer! Joseph confronts the Beast with this reveal per his research: Kevin's father was on the same train David survived 19 years ago. Since Mr. Glass orchestrated the train accident, he is responsible for the death of Kevin's father, and -- indirectly -- his tragic life of abuse at the hands of his evil mother.

Mr. Glass tries to recover from the startling information by explaining that he helped create the Beast, so he should be thanking him. The Beast does this, but says he is first and foremost a protector of Kevin, so he shatters some of Mr. Glass' frail bones.

The Twist(s)What at first seemed to be the start of a superhero showdown is disrupted by Dr. Ellie's mysterious team of gun-toting soldiers who start to intervene. David Dunn's is forced into his a puddle of water, his only weakness, and Ellie asks Casey to coarse Kevin out of the Beast to stop him from hurting anyone else -- all while she reveals the first of two twists in Glass.

Amidst David's murder, Ellie reveals that she does believe them to have superpowers. Instead, she and some secret organization have committed to taking down all powerful beings, to bring a continued balance to society. Every time a hero appears, so does a villain to oppose them, and if nothing is done about them, the world would be in chaos. David dies. Elijah succumbs to his injuries. And when the Beast switches to Kevin, a member of Ellie's team takes the shot and kills him, as well.

With each of the main characters now dead, Shyamalan includes shots of Ellie speaking to a group of people, likely a part of her anti-hero and villain society, to report what went down. She was never who she said she was, after all. Her plan to get rid of David and Kevin's powers by convincing them to not believe in them failed. She was forced to just take them out, using her soldiers.

However, Ellie underestimated the "mastermind" power of Mr. Glass. He used the many cameras in the high-security hospital to record each of the heroes' powers, and saved a copy to show the world after their deaths. It was a suicide mission all along, and Mr. Glass got exactly what he wanted.

What The Ending MeansGlass ends with Mr. Glass' mom receiving the tapes with evidence of David Dunn and Kevin's powers, which soon make their way to the internet and the subject of breaking news stories on television. Mr. Glass has spent his whole life believing comic books are historical artifacts of past events, and now he can rest easy in the grave knowing the whole world knows it because of his master plan.

Just as Unbreakable was a superhero origin story for David Dunn (Bruce Willis) and Split was a villain origin story for Kevin (James McAvoy), Glass is Samuel L. Jackson's own origin story, with some major implications as a result of his actions.

As introduced in Unbreakable, David Dunn obtains his powers when he was almost drowned as a kid and believed he could be "unbreakable." His belief gave him the strength to be incredible. For Kevin, he was abused as a child, creating his multiple personalities to protect himself from the abuse, ultimately creating the Beast as his power.

Dr. Ellie was attempting to get into their heads and make them believe their abilities were all in their subconscious. If they ultimately don't believe, they won't have powers, right? Now since the whole world can start believing the contents of comic books are real, Mr. Glass has theoretically created a tangible world of heroes and villains.

The ending to Glass provides the realization of Jackson's character from the beginning. First he needed to find a hero to his villain, which he found in David Dunn in Unbreakable. Because Mr. Glass can only be the mind, he needed brute strength to truly oppose David so his powers could be showcased to the world. Elijah found that muscle through Split's origin story and his team up with the Beast. His stint in the hospital with David and Kevin is how his plan is executed, and his passionate truth is released upon the world.
