Jumanji 3: Karen Gillan Tells Us The Type Of Character Shed Like To Play

After seeing Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, one anticipated aspect of the developing sequel is made very clear: the opportunity to see all of the main stars play their characters with very different personalities. For example, while Karen Gillan played Ruby Roundhouse as an introverted teenager because that's who was playing her avatar in the game, that could completely change in Jumanji 3. At this point there are no firm details about what we can expect, but the actress recently told me what she would love to do:

If an old man played Ruby Roundhouse [laughs] Like a really old guy. Suddenly he's in the body of a significantly younger killer of men.

In celebration of the arrival of Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle on home video, I recently had the opportunity to do a phone interview with Karen Gillan -- and it was during our conversation that I got her thoughts on the future of the franchise. Curious for her take, I specifically asked her what kind of personality she would love to play in the in-the-works Jumanji 3. She didn't hesitate for a second in her answer, immediately saying that she would love to portray an older man who has been sucked into the titular video game.

There is clearly a lot of comedy potential here -- particularly if the old man ranks high on the crotchety meter. And, of course, it would offer the opportunity for Karen Gillan to show some real range in her performance. Really the biggest issue would be orchestrating the plot machinations that would see an old man playing the game in the first place. Maybe it somehow winds up in a nursing home?

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle has been a monster blockbuster hit -- earning $930 million globally since its release in December -- and Sony's response has been to get a follow-up in the works. We still might be a couple years from seeing it come together, but it is in the works. In fact, Karen Gillan told me that there have been some talks with Jake Kasdan and her castmates about a Jumanji 3... but she really couldn't say much more than that. Said Gillan,

I think there was some chatter around a dinner table, which was just all of us having fun and thinking up ideas. But I can't say anything, because then they might see it in print and then it's a spoiler!

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle is actually still number seven at the box office -- available to see in more than 2000 theaters nationwide -- but those looking to see the film from the comfort of their own home now have the chance to do so. The blockbuster is now available in DigitalHD, and will be on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD on March 20th.

John Wick 3 Won't Bring Back One Of The Coolest Characters After All

John Wick 3 Won't Bring Back One Of The Coolest Characters After All

The John Wick series has emerged to be one of the best action franchises in recent memory, with two very well-received and kick-ass movies released thus far. John Wick: Chapter 2 introduced a ton of new characters to the mix, but the coolest was hands down Cassian, the rival assassin played by Common. He was the only character who could go toe-to-toe with John Wick (Keanu Reeves), but it sounds like the two of them won't be getting a rematch in John Wick 3: Parabellum.

I'm not in the third part, but I could say that I really loved being a part of John Wick 2 and it was an amazing experience. Working with Keanu [Reeves] and [director] Chad [Stahelski], they're just phenomenal. Challenged and really passionate about the stuff, and I can say that [John Wick 3] is going to be incredible, though, I'll tell you that much.

In John Wick: Chapter 2, John Wick is back in the game to settle some debts, which forces him to cross paths with Cassian. Long story short, John Wick ends up on the top of the hit list, and every assassin with a gun and a gimmick in New York City tries to kill him. This includes Cassian, who is the only one of these foes who is even close to John Wick's level of badass and instant headshots. The two of them have some of the best one-on-one fights in the entire movie, and sadly it sounds like that feud will stay in John Wick 2.

While it was widely assumed that Common would return to reprise his role in John Wick 3: Parabellum, that is unfortunately not the case. In an interview with Coming Soon, Common revealed that he would not be returning for John Wick 3. Common didn't give any specific reason as to why that is, but it's apparently not due to any kind of falling out with the creative team. Common had nothing but nice things to say about his experience filming John Wick 2 and working with Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski.

It could just be that the creative team behind John Wick 3 felt that Cassian's story was over, though things were left open-ended. It's also possible that there was a scheduling conflict and Common wasn't able to commit to filming. He has nine credited roles listed on IMDb for 2018, so he really kept himself busy!

We might not see Cassian and John Wick square off again, but at least we'll always have this fight from John Wick 2.

In addition to Keanu Reeves, John Wick 3: Parabellum does star Halle Berry, Ian McShane, Ruby Rose, Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne, Anjelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillon, and Said Taghmaoui. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 17, 2019.

Studio Shuts Down Kickstarter Attempt To Change The Ending Of Departed

Debating movies is part of the fun of watching them in the first place. People always have different opinions and perspectives and so talking out the different aspects of film is a lot of fun for many of us. What do you think the final scene of Martin Scorsese's The Departed? At least one person really hated it, to the point he started a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to digitally alter the shot. However, Warner Bros. has now stepped in and killed the idea, and kept the rat alive.

The Departed is a film about mobsters and cops. Matt Damon is cop working for mobsters. Leonardo DiCaprio is a mobster working for the cops. Mark Wahlberg is a cop who's also an asshole. Jack Nicholson is...well he's basically just Jack Nicholson. In the movie's final scene, spoilers for the over 10-year-old movie by the way, Damon's character is shot and killed by Wahlberg's character, and as the camera pans up from Damon's corpse, a rat crosses a windowsill, because the movie is full of rats, you see.

The shot is, clearly, unsubtle in the point it's trying to make. Some appreciate that point-of-view, but for others, the rat is a groan inducing addition, which led one fan of the movie to raise money via Kickstarter so that he could buy several copies of the movie on Blu-ray, and then digitally remove the rat. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. doesn't take kindly to the idea of somebody altering its film, and as the Rat Remover has now revealed on Twitter, Kickstarter has removed the campaign at the request of Warner Bros in order to comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The Departed is, itself, a film that has led to many debates. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture and finally won Martin Scorsese the coveted Best Director prize. Few would argue that Martin Scorsese deserves a Oscar for directing, though some might take issue that The Departed is the film that finally won it for him. Some would certainly argue that The Departed is far from his best work.

As for the final scene of The Departed. Is the rat too much? Check it out and see what you think.

The Kickstarter campaign was over half way to its $4,000 goal when it got shut down so clearly there are other who had a real issue with those final moments and wanted to see the rat gone. They'll just have to watch the existing version and squint I guess.

What do you think of the final scene of The Departed. Is the rat too much or is it just right? Let us know in the poll below.
