One Of Toy Story 4's New Characters Has A Pretty Heartbreaking Backstory

Pixar seems determined to top the emotional gauntlet that was Toy Story 3. The newest film in the franchise, Toy Story 4, is said to have brought poor Tom Hanks to tears in the recording studio, and the film isn't pulling any punches with its new characters. The doll Gabby Gabby is voiced by Christina Hendricks, and apparently the toy has never felt the love of a child because of a factory defect.

My character Gabby Gabby is a baby doll who was sadly made with a broken voice box. Because of this defect, she has never known the love of a child or been able to fulfill her destiny to love one back. She has spent her whole life in an antique store looking out at the real world.

In addition to old favorites like Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie, Toy Story 4 will feature a bunch of new toys who will either help or hinder the heroes. One of the new characters is Gabby Gabby, who looks like she's based on one of those older "talking" dolls. The first trailer for the movie seems to position her as the villain (she does have an army of ventriloquist dummies after all), but she's got a backstory that will bring you to tears.

Christina Hendricks voices the new character and she told People that Gabby Gabby has a tragically ironic origin that prevents her from doing the thing all toys are meant to do. She has a broken voice box and has thus never been loved or given love to a child. Not only that, but she lives in a boring antique shop!

It doesn't sound like the other two new characters will be as tragic as Gabby Gabby. Keanu Reeves voices Duke Caboom, a Canadian daredevil modeled after Evel Knievel. Caboom is a friend of the returning Bo Peep, and he's enlisted by Bo and Woody to help on their mission. However, he's got a fear of failure that he'll have to confront to get the job done.

The final new character is the tiniest toy in the franchise, Giggle McDimples. Voiced by Ally Maki, the one-inch Giggle is the police chief of a toy haven called Miniopolis. She's Bo Peep's best friend and a "mega boss," according to Maki.

Toy Story is known for introducing great characters, so hopes are high for these three new toys! Despite an especially rough development process, the movie looks great and we'll see if it forces us to use every tissue in the house by the time the credits roll.

Toy Story 4 is all set to hit theaters on June 21. For everything else popping up this year in theaters, check out our 2019 movie release guide.

Sesame Street Is Suing The Happytime Murders Because Duh

Sesame Street Is Suing The Happytime Murders Because Duh

Puppets are often associated with family-friendly entertainment, but every now and then something comes along where the puppets are thrown into stories that are only suited for adults. Such is the case with The Happytime Murders, which dropped its first, definitely NSFW trailer last week with the release of Deadpool 2. After spending a decade in development, the project from Brian Henson, son of Muppet creator Jim Henson, is finally arriving this summer, but with just a few months until its release, the extreme puppet comedy has been hit with a lawsuit by the Sesame Workshop, the company behind the long-running, beloved children's TV series Sesame Street.

The suit that Sesame Workshop filed in New York on Thursday (as reported by The Wrap) alleges that The Happytime Murders' trailer "tarnishes" the Sesame brand because it promoted the movie with the tagline "No Sesame, All Street," which is deemed an unauthorized use of the Sesame Street mark. To be fair, The Happytime Murders is certainly the polar opposite of what Sesame Street is all about, from the cursing to drug use to the lead puppet character getting, shall we say, overexcited in his office while "servicing" a client. In their mind, the folks over at Sesame Workshop believe that because The Happytime Murders trailer "deliberately confuses" consumers into thinking that Sesame Workshop is associated with or has endorsed this R-rated comedy, the "threat of irreparable injury posed to Sesame's mark and brand cannot be overstated." Sesame Workshop is now seeking a permanent injunction to prevent STXfilms from using its marks to promote The Happytime Murders, as well as unspecified damages.

While I could certainly see some people who watched The Happytime Murders wondering if the movie has any connection to Sesame Street or The Muppets given how similar these puppets look to characters we've known for years, I have a hard time believing that this comedy could do irreparable damage to the Sesame Street brand. If a parent or Sesame Street enthusiast is truly concerned, it only takes a minute online to learn that The Happytime Murders is in no way a twisted spinoff of the stories of Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and the rest of the gang. In any case, the lawsuit has been filed, so I imagine STXfilms isn't pleased to have to deal with this as it's also trying to market The Happytime Murders effectively in these remaining months. Fortunately, the company has its finest legal mind on the case, who also happens to be a puppet.

Set in a world where puppets live among humans as second-class citizens, The Happytime Murders follows Melissa McCarthy's Detective Connie Edwards teaming back up with her ex-partner-turned-private investigator Phil Phillips, pupeteered and voiced by Bill Barretta. Together, they have to track down the serial killer who murdered Phil's brother and is now targeting the stars of the 1980s TV series The Happytime Gang. The human cast also includes Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, Elizabeth Banks, Leslie David Baker and Jimmy O. Yang.

The Happytime Murders opens in theaters on August 17. If you're interested in what non-puppet movies are being released, look through our 2018 release schedule.

James Gunn Has Screened Avengers: Infinity War, Here's What He Thinks

James Gunn Has Screened Avengers: Infinity War, Here's What He Thinks

Slowly but surely, we have begun to inch closer and closer to the April 27 release date of Avengers: Infinity War. It's an event one decade in the making, and many fans are dying to see what the Russo brothers have cooked up. That said, some members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe family have had a chance to see the film, such as Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. In fact, after seeing the movie, Gunn took to social media to sing his praises of it. The director wrote:

Reviews don't get much more glowing than that. James Gunn obviously cannot say much about Avengers: Infinity War from a plot or character perspective, but he can definitely give his opinion of the overall movie. Based on that short review, it looks like we can look forward to an "incredible" superhero epic that will live up to our current expectations. Now, it might be time to adjust those expectations for something even greater.

James Gunn's short and sweet social media review of Avengers: Infinity War is one of many different stories that have helped me to get excited about what the film has in store. Most of the folks at Marvel have remained relatively tight-lipped about what to expect from the film, but there have been a few tidbits of information here and there that promise something genuinely unique. Not only have actors like Robert Downey Jr. promised a movie that will break our hearts with the deaths that we will see, but screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus also hyped the film as a behemoth blockbuster potentially worthy of Oscar consideration when CinemaBlend visited the set last year. Put all of that together, and it's clear that Infinity War may offer up a spectacle unlike anything that we have ever seen from this franchise before.

Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of ten years of storytelling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film centers on Thanos (Josh Brolin) as he journeys to Earth with his Black Order to acquire the Infinity Stones and complete the Infinity Gauntlet. As Gamora (Zoe Saldana) explaind in the film's most recent trailer: his ultimate goal is to eliminate half of all life in the universe, which lines up with his mission in the original Infinity Gauntlet storyline in the pages of Marvel Comics. It has been six years since the character turned and smiled at the audience at the end of The Avengers, and James Gunn's exuberant assessment of the final product seems to promise a blockbuster that won't disappoint. Considering his babies -- The Guardians of the Galaxy -- are coming to life under a different set of directors, this seems to be good news.

Audiences will finally get a chance to see if Avengers: Infinity War will live up to that hype when the film debuts in theaters on April 27. For now, if you haven't had a chance to check out Black Panther yet, make sure to catch Ryan Coogler's history-making, Wakanda-based solo movie to see what all of the fuss is about!
